Russian tourists’ spending abroad down by third

According to the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), Russian tourists cut their spending abroad by 30 % in 2015, compared to the previous year, as economic recession forces them to be more careful with money. Russians spent a total of $35 billion on accommodation, food, entertainment, shopping and service. In 2014 Russians spent $50,3 billion and in 2013 the amount totaled $56 billion.

Russia ranks No. 6 in the world in terms of spending during international trips, UNWTO said. Chinese travelers top the list, spending $292 billion last year. They increased their expenses abroad by 25%. The USA tourists rank No.2 ($120 billion), the Germans are No.3 ($76 billion) and the British are No. 4 ($63 billion). The French tourists take the fifth place in the rating of total expenses abroad ($38 billion).
