Visit Finland is working closely with the other Scandinavian Tourism Boards in US market with two programs USTOA and Signature Travel Network.

Scandinavian Tourism Program Overview with USTOA 2018

USTOA, the US Tour Operators Association is one of the most important and most prestigious industry associations in the US and represents over 160 of the top names in the travel and tourism industry. USTOA members account for a sizeable portion of the tour operator market in North America.  USTOA became a national organization in 1975 to foster trust in tour operators, and its motto, “Integrity in Tourism” requires members to adhere to the highest standards in the industry. Among these is the principle of ethical conduct, which requires members to conduct business according to a set of professional standards which include representing all facts, conditions and requirements relating to tours and vacation packages truthfully and accurately.

Who are USTOA Members? In order to become an active member of USTOA, tour operators must have been in business for at least three years and provide 18 industry references. In addition, active members must participate in the USTOA $1 million Travelers Assistance Program – recognized as the strongest of its kind in the industry – by posting a USD $1 million security to be used solely for reimbursing consumers in the case of bankruptcy or insolvency. USTOA’s Economic Impact in the US Travel Industry. The travel industry is a vast, complex, and lucrative business in the US. In 2015, the combined sales of active members of USTOA, exceeded USD 14.2 billion, up from USD 13.5 billion in 2014, and USD 12.45 billion in 2013. Members projected that sales would top USD 14.8 billion in 2016. USTOA members primarily sell to travel agents.  Active members of USTOA, the US Tour Operators’ Association, reported that 64.6% of all packages in 2015 were sold through travel agents.

Visit Finland together with The Scandinavian Tourist Boards recognize the importance of working with the US travel industry to create greater awareness of Scandinavia as a travel destination. Finland and Scandinavia remains a relatively unfamiliar region for American consumers who tend to consult and book more complex, multi-destination and overseas travel with a tour operator or through a travel agent. The Scandinavian Tourist Boards partnership with USTOA this year builds on our successful partnership in 2017 and once again will offer our Scandinavian partners the exclusive opportunity to directly showcase their products and services to USTOA Active Members at the USTOA Annual Conference and Marketplace.

USTOA 2018 Annual Conference and Marketplace | Phoenix, Arizona, USA | 26-30.11.2018

The USTOA Annual Conference and Marketplace will be held 26-30 November 2018 at the JW Marriott Phoenix Desert Ridge in Phoenix, Arizona. Only the highest-ranking representatives of USTOA Active Members attend the conference including company presidents and CEOs, VPs, Directors, and Managers.

Scandinavia remains a relatively unfamiliar region for American consumers who tend to consult and book more complex, multi-destination and overseas travel with a tour operator or through a travel agent. The Scandinavian Tourist Boards partnership with USTOA this year builds on our successful partnership in 2017 and once again will offer our Scandinavian partners the exclusive opportunity to directly showcase their products and services to USTOA Active Members at the USTOA Annual Conference and Marketplace.

Scandinavian Tourist Boards will sponsor the Active Member lunch on 27 November from 12-1:30pm during the conference. All USTOA active members are expected to attend this seated lunch. Scandinavian Tourism boards will give a short presentation and our participating suppliers will be invited to attend the lunch and be strategically placed at tables alongside the attending tour operators. This will provide exclusive access, as no other associate members of USTOA will be permitted to attend. We feel this sponsorship will give our suppliers maximum opportunity to spend time with USTOA active members in addition to the conference’s schedule of meetings.

Throughout the rest of the conference, participating Scandinavian partners will have the opportunity to hold additional 10-minute meetings with Active Members during the meeting sessions that they can pre-book starting in October. You can also participate in all of the conferences, panel discussions, networking sessions, lunches, and dinners.

The price consists of the USTOA Associate Membership fee 950$, the conference fee 1775$ and the Visit Finland fee 500€, that covers the sponsorship of the Active Member Luncheon on 27.11.2018

When applying for the Associate membership you must now have two sponsor companies indicated on your application before it is submitted. One of the two sponsor companies must be a current Active Member (if you already work with any of the USTOA Active Members, you can name one of them) and the other can be a current Associate Member, i.e. Visit Finland.

When your application has been approved, you will receive log in codes for loging in for the conference.
